Tex Report post Posted October 18, 2015 (edited) I reckon this may be a dumb question. I have been doing leather for quite a while now. As far a the Sheridan carvings go can anyone give me some ideas as far as drawing the patterns. I do fine with the carving where I have templates but I want to do my own thing, not just a template. I can ever seem to come up with what looks goods as far as drawing out my own pattern. Maybe I am too picky about what I am looking for but I just can't seem to draw out my own pattern. I am not an artist when it comes to drawing something. I just can't seem to get the swirls & stuff down the way I have them pictured in my mind. No brain to hand power lol. Any help would be appreciated cause I am tired of doing the same ole same ole. Thanks in advance, Tex. Edited October 18, 2015 by Tex
Chief31794 Report post Posted October 19, 2015 Contact Bob Park, his name on here is hidepounder. He has a book on sheridan pattern drawing and it is an excellent instructional guide for learning to draw floral patterns. Chief
DaveC Report post Posted October 19, 2015 I'm new to this and found Bob Park's book extremely helpful. There is another one called Floral Pattern Drawing for the Artistically Impaired by Pete Gorrell that I also found useful. Dave
Bob Blea Report post Posted October 20, 2015 Definitely get Bob Park's book. It is worth every penny. I have Pete Gorrell's book too but I wasn't 'getting it' from his book, but that's just me. Bob's book made things clear for me.
BondoBobCustomSaddles Report post Posted October 21, 2015 Not only is Bob Park one of the most talented leather artists out there, he has found a way to explain in detail how to put your ideas on leather and make them stand out. I highly recommend his book. Bob
Tex Report post Posted October 21, 2015 Thank ya'll for the info. I had bought other books in the past but they really don't give any info in drawing the patterns as ya'll probably know. I will look this 1 up & get it.& see if I can make my old brain understand it. Thanks again. Tex
ShunkaWakan Report post Posted November 17, 2015 Thanks on the Bob Park book info! Think I will be asking him about his book too. I have Sheridan Style Carving by Bill Gardner and Clinton Fay. It's been really helpful to me after I re-read it several times to get my brain wrapped around the idea of it. But obtaining more books on this subject can't hurt! If this pic shows, this is what I make. This Saddle is 2 inches long by almost 2 inches wide on the bottom skirt. So it is a very small space to also do Sheridan. lol
