Need Help With A Knife Choice Decision.

Recommended Posts

So right now I'm having trouble deciding between the wrangler rhino and the texas rose Knipschield knife. I don't have experience with round knives and would like to hear from you all which knife you would prefer. I have heard a lot of support for both and it seems to come down to personal preferences.

One major question I have is if the draw blade on the rhino worth it? Also if I should be looking at the other selections of styles then what I chose, or if there are other crafters I missed.

My second favorite hobby is collecting knives, and would love to own a new quality knife that also doubles as an important tool in my leathercraft. Thank you for any advice!

Here are the links to their knives.

I have and use a Knipper. Love it, it is the most used tool I own. As for the draw blade that is a matter of your own preference. Personally, I hold my knife in more than one way and angle, so for me it is just another place to cut myself. I also find when I am cutting around corners and curves in the pattern, when the curve gets tight or intricate, I will use my right hand on the handle to guide and push slightly, and my left hand flat on the piece with my left thumb against the back of the blade giving it the impetus to inch slowly so I don't over run the cut. There for sure I would be cutting my thumb off, not a good thing!!! I still use them!

I have zero experience with both makers, but they're both obviously excellent, so you won't go wrong with either.

However that draw blade on the LW knife looks like a trip to the hospital waiting to happen.

So I would go for the Knipschield and I probably will at some time, though I have plenty knives already.

Thanks guys, I think I will go with the classic texas rose Knip knife then, but I know in 5 years I'll probably get the wrangler too, just long enough time for my wife to forget about the other one.

Brand new to the forums and appreciate that you guys took the time to give me great answers! Thanks again.

Paul at LW will make the knife with or without the draw cut feature. Don't know about the Knip knife but I have a LW knife on order and Paul was great to deal with.
