Members venator Posted November 7, 2015 Members Report Posted November 7, 2015 I was wondering if there are any decent tutorials on multi-layer belts. Say a suede backed by vegetan or a nice exterior leather backed in vegetan. Anyone know of any? Thanks folks. Stu Quote
Members Dwight Posted November 7, 2015 Members Report Posted November 7, 2015 Go out to Google, . . . type in youtube multi layer belts. If it is there, . . . you'll see it. I personally wouldn't build a belt like that, . . . but that is just me, . . . May God bless, Dwight Quote
Members venator Posted November 7, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 7, 2015 Why not? Many high end companies such as equus do this? Quote
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted November 7, 2015 Contributing Member Report Posted November 7, 2015 Cut strip of each type of leather, apply contact cement, bond layers together. Stitch for reinforcement. Paint edges, punch holes, attach buckle. Granted that's a bit OVER simplified, but it does cover all the bases. You might try searching for variations on "lining a belt with chrome tanned leather". I know it's been done by multiple people, and by specifying "chrome tanned" you'll remove a lot of the search results that would pop up with double layer belts (like gun belts) Quote
Members impulse Posted November 8, 2015 Members Report Posted November 8, 2015 When gluing layer for a belt, make sure you have them over a curved surface around the same bend as a person's waist. Quote
Members kevinp Posted November 8, 2015 Members Report Posted November 8, 2015 as impulse said you need to glue the layers together in a curve if not the belt will be stretched on the out side and wrinkled on the inside. Quote
