Members SantaFeMarie Posted December 11, 2015 Members Report Posted December 11, 2015 I want to try a bit of purely decorative machine stitching. What is the best way to transfer the pattern? Obviously, I want lines I can see and follow; but I also want to be able to remove any trace of them that isn't obliterated by the stitching itself. Quote
dirtclod Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 Dress maker tracing paper ( I think it's called ) lay it on a file folder and trace over your pattern with the tracing paper in between the paper and folder. Cut slits in the folder. Put baby powder in a sock and tap, you should have pattern to stitch by and it should wipe off. Quote I'm old enough to know that i don't know everything.
Members Docado Posted December 11, 2015 Members Report Posted December 11, 2015 Use your sewing machine to "cut slits" for pattern without thread in needle. Quote
Members SmokeyPoint Posted December 31, 2015 Members Report Posted December 31, 2015 I assume you mean chrome tanned, because veg tan you just case and trace like you're going to carve it.For chrome tanned, print/draw your pattern on a piece of paper, turn it over and carefully trace the pattern on the back in pencil. If you don't have a light box, put it up against the window in the daytime and your pattern will show through. Once you have a good deal of carbon (lead) on the back of the pattern, place it over your leather and trace in pencil again. The carbon on the back will transfer to the leather.
