Staked Leather And Edge Finishing

Recommended Posts

When leather is staked does that make is more difficult to finish the edges?

I have some staked bridle leather and it seems I can not get as good an edge as I can with some

unstaked leather I have.

Thank you

I had never heard of the term. Is it as soft as tumbled?

Yes staking softens the leather. W&C offers it. You can see it on their price list.

Not sure what tumbled is though?

Leather staking, the table appears to be missing from the machine:

Also similar to jacking:

I think tumbled is just softened by tumbling it in a large drum, probably with a large batch of the same leather.

Possibly also with rocks or sand or something. Bowling balls, who knows?
