Members tew45 Posted December 20, 2015 Author Members Report Posted December 20, 2015 That would be a fantastic help! Thank You Quote
Members gottaknow Posted December 28, 2015 Members Report Posted December 28, 2015 I don't have a 38T belt. Do you have a Singer part number by chance? Regards, Eric Quote
Members TinkerTailor Posted December 28, 2015 Members Report Posted December 28, 2015 I have checked their stock and I didn't find one. I knew they made some flat belts but I didn't know they made timing belts. I had them make a belt for my tool post grinder! If I don't find a stock one I will check them. Obviously if you have a tool post grinder, you have a metal lathe and as such should be much better situated to make this machine work and fix unavailable parts than the average sewer. Too bad you can't turn a belt..... I really want a metal lathe, someday. Quote "If nobody shares what they know, we will eventually all know nothing." Members tew45 Posted December 28, 2015 Author Members Report Posted December 28, 2015 The only number for a 38tooth belt is for the 153W100 which is 235003 and the only belt with 38 teeth is a fabric belt from England. The England company indicates the belt is for a 47W which some parts manuals say a 47W uses a crank shaft /rod assy. I know the belt on my 152W101was a neoprene belt and not fabric so I know they were made. I just don't know where. Thank you very much for looking. Quote
Members tew45 Posted December 28, 2015 Author Members Report Posted December 28, 2015 TinkerTailor I have a couple of old lathes (a 12inch and a 6 inch Atlas) I have had for many years. I got them when I was gainfully employed and had some expendable cash. They have been very helpful over the years. I hope you find one for yourself. Quote
Members gottaknow Posted December 29, 2015 Members Report Posted December 29, 2015 Universal Sewing Supply sells the 235003 belt. It's not a stock belt, but it's only 7 days out. Regards, Eric Quote
Members tew45 Posted December 29, 2015 Author Members Report Posted December 29, 2015 Thank you Eric! I will order one after the first of the month. I need to polish the shaft bushing first for I have almost to destroy it to get it out. It is a press fit where a push fit would be fine. I did look at universal sewing supply but somehow failed to see it. I appreciate your time for helping me with my belt problem. I will be glad to get it running so I can see if I like the roller foot. Tony Quote
Members tew45 Posted January 8, 2016 Author Members Report Posted January 8, 2016 I ordered the belt from Universal Sewing Supply today. I had to call in the order since I could not get along with the online order site. It should be here in a week or two. I also should have time to work over the bushing behind the hand wheel to male it easier to install and remove. I think it should be a tight push fit and not a hammer fit. It is so tight I have almost destroyed it after two removals. If the weather permits I should have a chance to do the outside cleaning and remove some light surface rust. Quote
Members tew45 Posted February 25, 2016 Author Members Report Posted February 25, 2016 I tried to order the proper belt from Universal Sewing and the belt had been discontinued by both suppliers. The only seller that has the belt is college sewing in the UK which is not a problem except the belt is cloth which cannot be a long lasting belt. I still have the new 41 tooth belt so the first thing I will do will shorten the new belt to 38 teeth. If that doesn't work I might try to order the cloth belt. Otherwise the 153W101 will just be a trot line weight. So I still need a machine to sew using at least 207 thread for holsters etc. Quote
Members gottaknow Posted February 25, 2016 Members Report Posted February 25, 2016 The cloth belts last good long time. However, your 153 isn't going to like t207 thread. It best works with t135 and smaller. Regards, Eric Quote
