Members Bruce H Posted December 23, 2015 Members Report Posted December 23, 2015 Nice...I like it! What did you wet mold this against? That looks like a real pain to mold this with the lower fillet / sewing edge...Thingy...LOL Do you mold this prior to lining it? Just wondering how this was made. Quote
Members Quillleather Posted December 23, 2015 Author Members Report Posted December 23, 2015 It is formed over a wood mold block that is the shape of the case. A presser plate then pushes down all around the edges and it is then allowed to dry for a day or so until rigid enough to be removed and allowed to dry the rest of the way completely. The liner is soft pigskin and is added after the molding process. I use barge cement or 3m spray adhesive and have had good results with both. The block inside is also leather and adds rigidity for easier snapping and crush protection. It is also glued in place. After all hardware is installed and the two halves are stitched together, i trim the edges and burnish them and touch the edges up with dye and finish. Quote
