pete Report post Posted December 9, 2008 generally, chaps are full length leggings that protect the rider from rain ,snow brush, cactus, etc. Chinks are popular where the brush is more sparse and you jeans won't get torn up, it's hot weather, and the leather still protects and cushions the rope across your thigh when roping, and pulling.
