rpfkov Report post Posted January 1, 2016 Hello all, I would like to make this cuff for my daughter as part of a costume of her favourite Star Wars character for a convention she is going to in the spring. I am trying to identify the type of leather used. It looks like two types have been glued back to back? I am really stumped by the crinkly leather on the top. It looks like a project that will be ok for a leather newbie like me, if anyone could help with the leather ID, I would be very grateful.
rpfkov Report post Posted January 2, 2016 I'd be so grateful if anyone had an idea. Trying to figure out the crinkly leather on the top, I've been doing a lot of searching on the web with no luck.
MonicaJacobson Report post Posted January 3, 2016 I have no idea. I feel like I've seen that kind of leather before at Tandy, though... dunno. The closest things I could find were the shrunken goat from Maverick (http://www.maverickleathercompany.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Seasoned-Brown-Shrunken-Goat.jpg). It's probably embossed. It also looks a little like this: http://www.maverickleathercompany.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Embossed-Brandy-Dublin.jpg It's not the same thing, though, sorry. MonicaJacobson Report post Posted January 3, 2016 No guarantees - I haven't been to tandy in 18 months. :-D But they might have an idea of something similar.
tboyce Report post Posted January 3, 2016 It kinda reminded me of this leather:http://www.zackwhite.com/4-12--5-ounce-Crazy-Horse-Pull-Up-Dark-Brown--Z2602CHBN_p_4085.html
simontuntelder Report post Posted January 4, 2016 Could be from the belly area of the hide, and I don't think Tboyce is much off with his suggestion - chrome tan stuffed with wax/oil. But the grain pattern looks quite regular in its irregularity and that tells me that it might be embossed.
rpfkov Report post Posted January 4, 2016 Hi, Thank you all for your suggestions. I was thinking belly first, but then it does seem like it could be embossed. I've never seen a belly like that but I am not very experienced. I appreciate the help very much.
