Members panchoskywalker Posted January 25, 2016 Members Report Posted January 25, 2016 Hello, I recently bought these shoes and I realize I would like them to be darken. I have a brown dye that I like a lot which I used to dye this watch strap. How can I apply the dye I like on the shoes? Should I do something to the shoes before applying the dye? Quote
Members venator Posted January 26, 2016 Members Report Posted January 26, 2016 You can but it would be easier and simpler to control if you just buy some kiwi wax in a darker brown colour. A good polish or two and they'll darken right up. If you do try to dye them make sure you clean and deglaze thoroughly as any wax polish will act as a resist. Quote

Members Nuttish Posted January 27, 2016 Members Report Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) In order to ensure even penetration of whatever treatment you use, you must remove all wax and factory finish. There are so many processes used to finish leather, from various plastics to hard waxes, that you may need to figure out how to remove the coatings on your particular leather. Products like this are a good starting point - http://www.amazon.com/Angelus-Leather-Prepare-Deglazer-Oz/dp/B00EU322DQ Edited January 27, 2016 by Nuttish Quote
