Hi i make leather firefighter shields for helmets size 6"x 6" and am looking for recommendations on where to purchase Veg Tan leather? I currently have been buying 10oz belly for the front and 7oz belly for the back of my projects but am looking to buy leather by the side if its a better deal. I do not care so much about some scaring as my projects are generally small enough i can cut around any bad spots. I have been purchasing from Springfield Leather in MO and have been paying around $25 for a belly which are 4-6ft average.

Thanks!

Alex

Try Wickett & Craig or Zack White

You can also try Springfield Leather (there in Missouri) or even The Hide House in Napa, CA. Plenty of options without having to go to the tannery as I am sure that you don't wish to be purchase a minimum of 10 sides in one weight to get going.

At Wickett & Craig you can purchase 1 belly or 1 hide--no minimum order.

I am a little late on joining this conversation but i figured id add my two cents as well , i use almost all veg tan and i get it from "Garlin Neumann Leather" i don't know if they have an official website but they supply all over the world i am lucky and live 5 minutes from the warehouse which they allow walk in business, they are the best price i have seen around anywhere last time i went in i payed about $120 for a side about 20 - 24 Sq , they are also super friendly if you called them im sure they could help you , most of it has a few blemishes in it but you said that wasn't a big deal but figured i mention it

Good Luck to you!
