Water Buffalo ( Chrome Tanned )

Recommended Posts

I bought some water buffalo hide an that stuff is beyond stiff. Is there any thing to make it more pliable ? I made a checkbook cover lined with pigskin lining an it stiff. ANY THOUGHTS

Someone with more experience must know something about this leather. Or is it just junk leather.

Forgive me if you've already tried this- but what about neatsfoot oil?

I used a very generous amount of carnauba wax on some really stiff horse hide one time to loosen it up some. It wasn't a huge difference but it did help...?

Thank you all. I've tried everything an I guess its just the leather. Its lightweight 5/6 but tough. I guess it has its place but checkbook covers is not one of-em.

I think I've got some of the same stuff and I agree, it's pretty stiff stuff. I made a wallet out a piece and even after 6-8 months in my back pocket, it's still pretty stiff. It has softened some but I think it's just the nature of the leather.
