TinkerTailor Report post Posted February 5, 2016 Anyone know where to find 316 SS hardware. I have messaged back and forth with Saddleback leather about there hardware and they refer me to tandy and google searches. Basically avoiding and dodging the the question.. I would be really surprised if they told you. Quality, original hardware can make a brand successful and is not easy to find as you know. It takes time and research. Both cost money, and sometimes there are minimum orders, or perhaps they are custom. Due to these facts it is not likely they would give up the secret to someone operating in the same market.......That is just business. There are people on this site in business, as well as hobbyists. While everyone here likes to share a lot of information around, and tips fly, most of those in business probably have a few secrets, techniques, and sources, that they keep close to their chest and do not share publicly, I know i do. That is also the nature of business. Where I live, Vancouver B.C, it is coastal and there is quite a big marine industry. Every boat shop will have at least some stainless hardware like snaps and clips and doo-dads. Do some poking around in the boat shop/marine upholstery/sailing trades in your area. They may have the hardware or the info you need.

Rebecca Wiseman Report post Posted February 12, 2016 I have sent out inquiries to several of our manufacturers. The factories are closed till March. As soon as I have heard anything I will post my findings.
CedarValley Report post Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Sorry I should have added this in my previous post. I am actually already able to get 316 SS welded D-rings, O-rings, loops and some snaps from two other companies I will list. I am really after buckles, roller buckles and more selection of snaps for straps for bags. Other fasteners like rivets? I am just making my wish list. Not even sure if anyone makes those. Not sure if they would work as rigid as they probably would be. I have worked with both of these companies for 316 stainless steel D-Rings, O-Rings, loops and some snaps: Unicorn Stainless. Their prices were a bit more than the next company, Safeland, but they had a little better selection. Still no where what I need, or want. They actually are a distributor and I cannot remember the company Unicorn buys from. I actually called THAT company first and they referred me to Unicorn because they would not sell to me in the smaller quantities like Unicorn will. When I run across the company that Unicorn buys from I will edit this post. The other company I buy from is Safeland Industrial. Considerably better prices but a bit lower on the selection I was looking for. So I have bought from both. Sorry I should have posted this before. I hope someone can use these companies. Scott ***UPDATE**** This is the company Unicorn buys from, Suncor Stainless. But they won't sell smaller quantities but maybe someone like OTB can work with them. Just FYI. As soon as I have heard anything I will post my findings. Just an idea for your catalog, if you could have a section dedicated to solid brass and/or solid stainless steel, and when the time comes 316 stainless steel hardware. It's nice the way you have it now, sectioned by size. But if you could add a section, yes duplicating some of your entries, that would be extremely helpful. I ONLY buy solid brass and solid stainless steel. So it takes me some time to browse any vendor's selection. Not just yours. Or if there was at least a sorting option for that on your website. I do not like and will not put anything plated on my stuff. At least if there is not an alternative anyway. So if anyone from Weaver, Springfield or any other of you awesome companies are listening.... Just my $0.02 Edited February 12, 2016 by CedarValley
Rebecca Wiseman Report post Posted February 12, 2016 Thank you for your suggestions. We love hearing feedback on what we can do to make your purchasing experience easier. I'm very happy to say that we have been redesigning our website www.ohiotravelbag.com. By next weekend it will launch and it will be much easier to use. You can search for items, by item number, finish, type of metal, etc. You will be able to search under all Brass or all Stainless Steel without having to look through the entire website. We will narrow it down for you. Please always give us suggestions on what we can do to add to our inventory of items. We love hearing from our customers on suggestions of items and finishes. We can also source for you and have items custom made. Don't hesitate to ask. Thanks again...

I do not have a fast computer or a huge monitor in the shop so navigating the catalog zooming in and out to read stuff is cumbersome, specially when it takes a while for the pages to load due to a slower shop computer. It is fine on the 21 inch monitor, faster computer in the office, but i never am looking up hardware there.
Rebecca Wiseman Report post Posted February 12, 2016 We agree that the PDF catalog has been difficult to use. This is why we are so happy to announce that next weekend we will be launching our redesigned website. www.ohiotravelbag.com. You will be able to see the items, the different finishes that are available and so much more. Information will include things like base metal, country of origin and measurements. You will be able to look up items by type and base metal like Solid Brass or Stainless Steel. Ordering online will be streamlined but you can always call us to place an order. We love talking to our customers. We are very excited about this change and we hope that this will make it easier for people to be able to find exactly what they need, when they need it. Thanks for the feedback, it is always welcome.
