dfrensdorff Report post Posted February 16, 2016 Hello All........I have a bobbin winder question.........I have a Cowboy 3200, and with it came a cheap bobbin winder that sits on the side.....I have adjusted it to ad nauseam......here is my problem, or maybe this is just what it is..... I believe it is correctly threaded (through the hole, around the disc, over the "field goal post", and onto the bobbin).....when I begin the winding, the first three or four "winds" go perfectly. Then, the thread gets stuck in a corner and I have to move it manually with my finger to move it along. From that point forward, I need to watch the corner carefully, and it never continues to wind perfectly. Am I doing something wrong here? This can't be rocket science..... * are there better ones on the market? I have seen some of you have made your own winder......does they work any better? I see that they are just a version of the bobbin winder with an external motor.......Thank you and any advise and help would be greatly appreciated............Don
Ferg Report post Posted February 16, 2016 The disc needs to be fairly tight on the thread. The disc base is adjustable, side to side. You may also have it rotated slightly so that it isn't in perfect alignment with the bobbin. When adjusted properly they work fine. I think the reason most of us build winders is so we don't have to use the sewing machine to wind plus our winders are faster. ferg
bruce johnson Report post Posted February 16, 2016 I pulled the stem out of an old bobbin winder. I stick it in my drill and tension the thread off the spool with my thumb and first finger. I go back and forth like a level wind bait casting reel and wind a pretty good bobbin in no time.
