bob21804 Report post Posted April 23, 2016 Very cool. I like that! A few questions... Your edge shown in the last pic looks perfect. Can you explain your process? It looks like you decided not to include a large pocket for bill - correct, or is it just not so visible in the pix? Any reason not to include it? What weights of leather did you use? I've never used horsehide. How does working with it differ from Vegtan cow? Very nice design and execution - Thumbs up! Bob
Thor Report post Posted April 23, 2016 I like that color combination and the overall appearance of that wallet. Very nice job!

There is indeed a slot for notes, although these photos don't show it. Here's an iPhone photo as it was finished up which gives you a better idea. This is 2oz horsehide, so it's nice and thin. I thinned the gullets down to 1oz, however. Horsehide is my favourite, despite feeling guilty every time I ride my horses! Firm temper, easily burnished, thin and strong. The busnishing is really standard. Sand > edge > soak in hot beeswax > burnish > more beeswax > more burnishing (repeat until tidy.) Cheers mate! bob21804 Report post Posted April 24, 2016 Thanks for the additional info. I've never tried beeswax, though I have read mention of it quite a bit. I'll have to search around for more info and give it a shot. It seems no matter how much I sand and burnish, I never quite get that perfect edge I'm striving for,
TwinOaks Report post Posted April 24, 2016 check out the topic by Hidepounder (Bob Park) on edge finishing in the "how do I do that?" section. He describes how, as well as why his way works.
