Members artwithapulse Posted April 23, 2016 Members Report Posted April 23, 2016 (edited) It's finished! Guys, it's finished. Going to have to add this one to the lineup, I think! Totally winged the pattern, so I'll have to get it drawn up. Dark brown horsehide CXL blaze orange Ritza thread 3 stiff drinks. Edited April 23, 2016 by artwithapulse Quote

Members bob21804 Posted April 23, 2016 Members Report Posted April 23, 2016 Very cool. I like that! A few questions... Your edge shown in the last pic looks perfect. Can you explain your process? It looks like you decided not to include a large pocket for bill - correct, or is it just not so visible in the pix? Any reason not to include it? What weights of leather did you use? I've never used horsehide. How does working with it differ from Vegtan cow? Very nice design and execution - Thumbs up! Bob Quote
Thor Posted April 23, 2016 Report Posted April 23, 2016 I like that color combination and the overall appearance of that wallet. Very nice job! Quote

Bob Cheers Bob! There is indeed a slot for notes, although these photos don't show it. Here's an iPhone photo as it was finished up which gives you a better idea. This is 2oz horsehide, so it's nice and thin. I thinned the gullets down to 1oz, however. Horsehide is my favourite, despite feeling guilty every time I ride my horses! Firm temper, easily burnished, thin and strong. The busnishing is really standard. Sand > edge > soak in hot beeswax > burnish > more beeswax > more burnishing (repeat until tidy.) Cheers mate! Quote
Members bob21804 Posted April 24, 2016 Members Report Posted April 24, 2016 Thanks for the additional info. I've never tried beeswax, though I have read mention of it quite a bit. I'll have to search around for more info and give it a shot. It seems no matter how much I sand and burnish, I never quite get that perfect edge I'm striving for, Quote
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted April 24, 2016 Contributing Member Report Posted April 24, 2016 check out the topic by Hidepounder (Bob Park) on edge finishing in the "how do I do that?" section. He describes how, as well as why his way works. Quote
