what type of staining is this?

I'm pretty new here, so please forgive if this is posted in the wrong place. But I would like to learn how to do this type of staining or dying of words on a wallet I'm making. I thinks it's beautiful, but i have no idea how to start researching and learning it.

Anyone know what this is called?

Looks like it may be burned in, pyrography, like woodburning.

Agreed, definitely loooks like pyrography. Zooming in, you can see the indentation.

And if I had legible handwriting, that's how I'd do it.
