Glue bleed stains

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, sorry for my bad english i am from Ukraine. Here is my problem - dark stains appeared on my leather jacket and i decided to remove them with help of ethyl alcohol. After that, stains became darker and more visible. I visited dry cleaner and he said it's glue bleed stains and  he wont take a risk removing it. He advised to sew peace of leather over the place with dark stains.

Maybe there exists way to remove these stains? Or maybe its better to sew peace of leather on this place? What will you advise? Please help. Thanks a lot.

I would recommend contacting the people at Bee Natural Leather products.  I know they have several different leather cleaners and conditioners depending on the type of leather you have.  My guess is that is probably a chrome tan leather but they would be able to look at your pictures and make a recommendation.  Their products are very good but I doubt they will be able to remove that stain.  But, you never know till you try.

Guys thanks for advices. As it's A2 flight jacket - i bought ww2 repro leather patch and will sew it on. I think it's the only way to hide these stains. The leather is veg tanned, i'm sure.

If it is nice soft flexible leather, it's not likely veg tanned.  Most jacket type leather is chrome tanned from what I have seen.  And yes, even chrome tanned leather will bleed through when it gets wet enough (water) or with a more volatile solvent.  Walked 5 miles in a pouring rain wearing a black leather jacket.  My shirt and skin were blue from the leather dye.  Jacket was a little stiffer for a few days after it dried out, but softened back up just by wearing it.m
