Hydrangeaceae Report post Posted October 5, 2016 I just recieved an order from Abbey England which included (in theory) this Don Carlos. round knife. The knife I've received is however completely different. Now, of course I made a deliberate choice to go with a cheaper knife than the ones getting brilliant reviews, I'd rather buy cheap first and invest later, but I'm still left with a bit of a disappointed feeling. I've written Abbey, but considering that they still haven't responded to the email I sent them 3 weeks ago, I thought I'd ask here if anyone has any information on the knife I've recieved. Or, in other words, did I get ripped off or am I just overly concerned?
SamB Report post Posted October 5, 2016 It seems to be genuine, the one you received. But why don't you contact the manufacturer? It's be best way to clarify your doubts. Their website http://www.herder-solingen.de/index.htm

And yes it wouldn't make sense for a reputable seller like Abbey to sell a counterfeit, but the difference is just so severe, on all areas. and also from all other knifes I've seen from that brand. That's why it's nice for me to get some input, before I write an unnecessarily angry email to AE.
RockyAussie Report post Posted October 6, 2016 I have a couple of similar looking knives and I have found that the blade inside the handle is only held in by some sort of paste/glue stuff. Over a lot of years one finally come totally loose and I pulled it out and the Paste was crumbly and could shake out. It is possible that this one has improved that problem. Hope you still have all your fingers! But, as long as it last even a month it should be enough for me to decide if I want to purchase a more expensive one, so at least it's not a concern for me I guess. (sidenote, how the heck do you remove the quote on mobile? My laptop broke.. I feel lost haha). Edited October 6, 2016 by Hydrangeaceae
Trox Report post Posted October 26, 2016 I think that is an old picture of the Don Carlos knife. I have noticed they have changed design during the years, to the worse I'm afraid. It's no idea buying a cheap new round knife today. No doubt it's a real knife, I'm afraid this is what you get buying a cheap factory made knife today. Why not buying a good used US made knife or and old French Blanchard (if you find a good one). Old CS. Osborne Newark stamped rosewood and brass, you might find one from 50 to 100 usd. in fairly good shape. These are good knifes and there are still many around keeping the price down. Has to be Newark stamped or early Harrison stamped with cocobolo and brass. There is no such thing as an cheap good head or round knife, there are only lucky finds Good luck, Tor
