I have an order for a Glock 22, and needed a holster mold for it. Since I ordered my last gun from HolsterSmith.com, and got a good deal on the Blue Gun, I went back. They were out of Blue Gun, but had HolsterMolds brand, and it was 5-10 bucks cheaper. The downside at that point, was that the trigger guard was filled in. Not really too bad. But I received it last night, and discover that the ejection port is also filled in. The weight was very light, and the finished surface looked like it was done by child labor.

These are primarily created and sold for Kydex holster makers.  Kydex holster makers need the trigger guard and ejection port blocked out.  This save much time and labor.  Of course the takedown pins or levers, mag releases, safetys, slide release, lights and rails also need to be blocked out.   Many beginners wont block out these things and the guns will drag in and out.  Next time order the blueguns brand IF you are only doing leather.  There are many stores online who carry them. bluegunstore.com, alternateforce.net come to mind.

as to their surface finish... I have bought several  different brands of molds. I have probably close to 200 blue guns. I have a dozen or more multi-molds.  The  small companies making the ones like you bought are just guys like us. They make them and sell them pretty cheap. If they finished them out all the way, they would cost too much and nobody would buy them. Everyone would go back to using only Blueguns or the real thing.  The market for these molds is very very small. so they cant just make a huge run and recoup their costs.  I understand where you are coming from though. I have bought the molds too and went "what the heck".

I have several of them and took a drill to the trigger area wasn't a big deal and if your good with small jewelers files that you can buy at Harbor freight you can work the ejection post back in to the mold of the gun.  For leather they work ok, not the refined job of a blue gun and don't claim to be but they work and as mentioned ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ above at a lower cost in fact have a few that I am selling just for the plug.

For $5, I'd just get the one that's already opened up. :dunno:  Somewhere around here, there's a whole list of places to get these guns.

Shield .45

Have you seen the mags for this one?  Can't be quite the same as the "old" shield...

Blue Gun was my first choice, but, they were out at the moment. Blue Guns are made in my home town, and I ALWAYS support the home team if I can. I also have to go with quickest turn around time (Which again, was HolsterSmith.com), especially in this case. New customer, and he is a local cop. If I get him hooked, the rest may follow. It has been my experience to keep the local cops happy.

I sorta scored a deal when I got the ones I have from the mold guys, every now and then they will have a sale of seconds and you can get like 8 to 10 of the molds for like 90 or 100 so it worked out to a degree.  The only bummer on the ones I got is that it had some doubles like to of the glock 43's and one other that had a double but I traded with a guy for one he had and one I had so it worked ok, but still have 2 glock 43's but for 10 bucks each I cnat complain.

Here is another maker that has impressed me.  I have used these molds to make Kydex and leather holsters and they have performed surprisingly well.  They are rough around the edges but they work good and are only $24.99 free shipping.  New molds are added periodically. http://www.bluegunstore.com/privatelabelmolds.aspx

Rob is a good guy to order from. Everything I have ordered from bluegunstore.com has come fast.

I just checked out the bluegun store. Free shipping sounds awesome, and N.C. isn't too far away. I kinda like the fact though, that CKK industries is only a couple hours away from me. The only way to get it quicker than priority, would be to drive there. Our Nissan gets good mileage, and I could almost make the drive for less than postage. However, next time it comes time to get a mold, I'll try out bluegunstore. Always good to have other sources.

No I have not. And my LGS has not gotten one back in yet. I think they had one and I didn't even bother to look.  However, the only real difference is they are slightly thicker on the frame.  And with the odd shape of the 9/40 mag, who knows.  If I see one I'll try to get some measurements.

As to Rob, great guy to deal with.  That's where the .45 came from.  Even had my computer screw up the order and got it within the usual time frame.  Working on stitching the holster now.

I'm not such a fan of the Rings mags myself.  The guns are fine as a rule, but I like Duncan's mags... cast in the shape of a loaded mag.

As for free shipping, that sounds okay on the surface.  But the shipping is in the price.  If you're buying 1 or 2, doesn't matter one way or another.  But teh more you buy, the more TIMES  you're paying the shipping.  Still, couple bucks one way or the other, :dunno:

IMO, better to just buy real mags.  Figure I can always re sale them later.  99% of mine are real and loaded.  Yeah, the unloaded rings mags are silly.

Yep.  Not the right shape (on the working end), tough to slide down an already stitched mag carrier (though they work for forming leather over and THEN stitching) and they're a bit pricey for what they are (for a few extra $, you can just buy the actual mag).

That's what I do as well. I only have one blue mag. I couldn't find the real one anywhere, local or online.

@malabar- I grew up in the Melbourne/Eau Gallie area. Living in the woods of Central Georgia now. Your name wouldn't have anything to do with the Malabar area of Palm Bay, would it?

@malabar- We left Fla almost 8 years ago, and that whole area had blown up then, I have heard its even worse now. I remember when you couldn't find 2 houses within a mile of each other, and Palm Bay was "The Sticks".
