firstcapitalfirearms Report post Posted November 14, 2016 I am looking for wholesalers who sell 12/13 oz English Bridle or "English" as some other wholesalers call it. I am actually using it for belts. I know of Weaver's but I am not fond of their minimum requirements and yearly amount of 1200.00. I also have read some negative posts on this site concerning the quality of leather from there. I also am aware of Tandy and Springfield as well. If anyone else knows of other sources I would appreciate it. Thanks Mark
MADMAX22 Report post Posted November 14, 2016 (edited) Hermann Oak (has minimum order) Wickett and Craig If your looking for the real waxy english bridle I would suggest Booth & Co (american importer of sedgwick leather). gracefulmeg Report post Posted November 14, 2016 You can buy it direct from Hermann Oak - 5 side/back minimum, which sounds well over your minimum preference. I'm working on getting there, myself, too. http://www.hermannoakleather.com/products-and-pricing/english-bridle Springfield is where I get my HO bridle because I like to pick my hides out in store and I have a wholesale account with them. Maverick Leather is another good choice if you're not in a hurry. They stock H/O and Wickett & Craig bridle leather http://maverickleathercompany.com/product-category/hermann-oak/ Hermann Oak is the only type of bridle leather I work with because I like to do a little stamping work with it. Others will have better input, I'm sure.
MADMAX22 Report post Posted November 14, 2016 You can stamp W&C also, the american english bridle is alot different then the true english bridle which has a real thick waxy top coat. I have actually redyed W&C bridle to darker colors with decent success and like some of the results Ive gotten. If you go with W&C maverick leather has some nice prices but they are not near as nice as what you get from the tannery where you can spend a little more and order actual top grade leather hides. Agreed. I'd say any time you don't buy direct from the tannery, it's going to be hit or miss on quality - whether you buy from weaver, Springfield, or maverick. I have been buying from weaver quite a bit the later half of this year. I won't be any longer due to the minimums mentioned. Their prices for mere peasants like me are not competitive. I've gotten some great stuff from them and some meh stuff. Same experience with springfield the few times I've had leather shipped to me instead of picking it out in store. JerseyFirefighter Report post Posted November 14, 2016 (edited) Thoroughbred leather carries 13/15oz bridle sides for $8.85/sq. (note it doesnt specify English for what it's worth) You have to contact Mark via email to place an order. Send a request to markcoxon01@gmail.com and he will give you a price list. The only caution i've noticed as of late is that his stock levels can vary. I would consider not waiting until last minute until ordering and ask if the stuff is in stock before you confirm the order.
