Rohn Report post Posted December 17, 2016 That is very nice. Great job on the basket weave. What dye did you use? Looks like it is antiqued, is it?
alpha2 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 The antique is Fiebings Dark Brown Antique Finish and the stain is Eco-Flo Saddle Tan. I keep thinking I should do something a little darker, but I just love Saddle Tan. I did a couple of applications to darken it just a bit. This is my second holster, and I learned A LOT from the first one!
CaptQuirk Report post Posted December 18, 2016 A really nice job for a second attempt. I can't wait to see what else you do. The stitching looks like it might be a little close to the edge, but that isn't likely to be an issue. So, good job, and keep it up!
alpha2 Report post Posted December 18, 2016 Yeah, I've been moving the stitching in a bit lately. I noticed that too. Thanks.

It sure makes the BW look nice. Hope you don't mind me asking another question - What finish do you use before the antique finish? I use Fiebings tan-kote. I really like your holster. CaptQuirk Report post Posted December 18, 2016 @alpha2- I tend to shoot for 3/16" for my stitching, so I mark the line in a little more, so that I still have that 3/16" worth after sanding and shaping the edges. But like I said, you are doing a great job.

But like I said, you are doing a great job. That's where I lost the edge distance. Somehow forgot to allow for the sanding and shaping. BTW, I lied about the saddle tan, this time I used Eco-Flo Briar Brown 50/50 with water. I am presently using Fiebings spray finish for the first coat, then antiquing. Buffing between each coat of stuff, at least two coats of finish after final stain. Thanks for the compliments, my friends!
