Members myjtp Posted January 12, 2017 Members Report Posted January 12, 2017 I want to attach two pieces of 8oz veg tan with Chicago Screws and I'm wondering what length of Chicago Screws to use? Do you want it as tight as you can or do you want it just long enough so the two pieces can still swivel? Quote
Members TomG Posted January 12, 2017 Members Report Posted January 12, 2017 I always try to make them tight and make sure at least 1/2 of the thread length is engaged. Where did you get the clamp? I'm using one I got from OTB. It's a high impact plastic material (can't remember the name) and works pretty well. But the rubber stop on the bottom is tearing and I don't know where to get a replacement. Quote Tom Gregory Legacy Leathercraft www.legacyleathercraft.com www.etsy.com/shop/legacyleathercraft
Members JerseyFirefighter Posted January 12, 2017 Members Report Posted January 12, 2017 I think I got mine from Weaver or Springfield. I use a mix of 3/16 and 1/4" screws depending on the application. I agree that you want to be at least halfway down the shaft when tightening them. I feel that unless you want the two pieces to swivel, you would want to see the leather depress as you tighten it. EITHER WAY.. use blue locktite. That tool you have will be a life saver if something ever comes back for "customer adjustment" after the fact. I do want some pieces to swivel but I will definitely get some shorter ones to tighten up the leather as well. Quote
