Members Dunluce Posted January 26, 2017 Members Report Posted January 26, 2017 I am looking at buying some pigskin to make some wallets, card holders etc. You can buy it dry finished or tallow waxed. I have never used any tallow waxed before; can you burnish the edges of it as you can with normal veg tan? Quote
Members Tugadude Posted January 26, 2017 Members Report Posted January 26, 2017 Guessing you are looking at Metropolitan. Their listing says the pigskin is partially vegetable tanned. I would assume it will burnish up well. There were two comments on the product(s) and one person says it burnishes well. Doubt the finishing will make a huge difference and they both start out with the same tanning process. Did you try asking the supplier? Maybe you can get a small sample of each. Quote
MADMAX22 Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Burnishing thin leather is pretty hard to begin with. I have had mixed results with combination tanned leather, some burnishes pretty decent and others can be as bad as straight chrome tanned. The tallow waxed if that what it really is should actually help but who knows what that phrase actually stands for. Quote
