Members KeithHideWorks Posted February 1, 2017 Members Report Posted February 1, 2017 http://www.leprevo.co.uk/photos/plough-knife.htm Has anyone used this or bought from them before? At 125 GBP, its considerably cheaper than the Blanchard at $400USD. Just ruined $200 worth of HO leather with one of those shitty strap cutters. I need something that won't slip and can cut heavier leather with ease. Been searching for a plough gauge all over, but cant find anything under $400. Quote
Members cjmt Posted February 1, 2017 Members Report Posted February 1, 2017 Its a new old stock Barnsley. Not amazing quality, certainly not in the league of the Blanchard but will do the job with care and good technique. Bottom tier professional tool but professional tool nonetheless Quote
Members KeithHideWorks Posted February 3, 2017 Author Members Report Posted February 3, 2017 How about this one? http://paffrath-remscheid.de/index.php/onlinekatalog/product/3083-166-oesen-und-scheiben-typ-oval http://paffrath-remscheid.de/index.php/onlinekatalog/product/3092-183-ersatzmesser-für-riemenschneidmaschine? Anyone know where to order them? Is there a Pro/Con of the various Plough Gauges (Dixon, Blanchard, Barnsley, ect?) Are the newer Blanchard really that good? Would really love to know more about this type of tool before I make a purchase decision. Quote
bikermutt07 Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 Bruce Johnson has lots of draw guages for like 40 bucks. It's not a plough gauge but probably miles above the strap cutters. I couldn't do anything with my strap cutter either. Then I spent some time on sharpening and polishing the blade. It made a world of difference. Not easy, but those tiny blades can be sharpened. Good luck. Quote
Members Mattsbagger Posted February 3, 2017 Members Report Posted February 3, 2017 Heck my Tandy wood strap cutters works real good.lol Maybe I just got lucky. Quote

Blanchard is generally nice, better made and pretty. Both will last generations. The Barnsleys are more or less a reproduction of the Dixons but poorer quality and less nice to use. Unlikely to last generations but will last decades. All three will do the job. All have a learning curve Quote
