Members SITTINGUPHIGH1 Posted January 6, 2009 Members Report Posted January 6, 2009 Couple people have told me they feel Wickett & Craig is to dry and dulls there cutting edges. Wicker & Craig doesn't tool as good also. Were Hermann Oaks has more oil in it and easer to tool. Lets have some opinions on this? Thanks Mort Quote
Members greg gomersall Posted January 6, 2009 Members Report Posted January 6, 2009 I find the Hermann Oak a little harder to work with. Firmer denser hides make for harder cutting and needs to be cased properly to work nice but the results are worth it as I feel I end up with a crisper carve or stamp job when finished and the denser leather will last longer with proper care. Members Randy Cornelius Posted January 6, 2009 Members Report Posted January 6, 2009 I have had some HO that has some hard spots that you just about could not cut. HO is more firmer and agree will tend to hold the tooling better. I find that W&C more softer and will mold better and is more consistant without any hard spots. It is all in what you like and get used to. I have used some of the skirting from Siegel and Thoughbred that works very good also. Randy Quote
Members ChuckBurrows Posted January 6, 2009 Members Report Posted January 6, 2009 If you want your W & C firmer just ask them to double or triple plate it - it firms up nicely. Also the 8/10 oz tooling is firmer than the 8/10 oz skirting..... Quote
