I didn't know where else to post this, so I posted it here.

I'm not sure what leather I want to use for this bag.  My fiance would like me to make her a bag and matching wallet.  I will be using Ian Atkinson's pattern for the bag (this pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/264115189/build-along-leather-pattern-6-turned?ref=shop_home_active_26) and making a simple wallet like this one https://www.pinterest.com/pin/564498134524401334/

So, I'm not sure what leather to use for this stuff.  I've previously made myself a bag (messenger bag style but almost case-like), but I used a double shoulder in 6/7 oz veg tan then dyed it, which is obviously not going to work on this one.  I'd like to move up a bit and use some nicer leather.  I thought about this:

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Thank you all for making me feel at home and welcome enough to ask the dumb questions!

I used this pattern before. I used a 5/6 drum dyed montana side from Tandy. Worked well. It was soft with a pull up. Dunno about w/c bridle. Never used it. I have used the skirting its very nice.

I think your choice will be great in a 5-6 ounce. If the wallet has much of an interior I would use a lighter weight for that. 3-4 ounce. If you have a splitter you should be set.

I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with.

Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day.

From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.

IMHO the WC bridle is there tooling leather with a nice dye and finish applied to it. Its a pretty nice leather. Dont think they make walnut colored but maverick takes some liberties in descriptions.

Get the 5oz or 3oz, it will be about as easy to do that style bag as regular vegtan would be with one exception, it doesnt take water as easily so you cant wet form it or moisten it to help invert the bag and get the corners squared away.

Anyhow its nice leather usually and should make a nice looking bag.
