Video: Swing-down edge guide installation on a Cowboy 4500

I managed to overcome my fear of drilling holes into perfectly good sewing machines yet again to install a swing-down edge guide on my Cowboy 4500. It was the logical next step after making the extended hand lever.

I used the KG-967 edge guide in this video. The KG-967 is the extended version of the KG-867 and has 20mm more reach (the adjustment range is offset by 20mm). Both guides actually work on a Juki TSC-441 class machines.

Here's the video for your entertainment:

Couple of tips to make it easier is use a center punch to mark your holes (not sure if you did or not) and then drill pilot holes with a small drill bit. This can help align the larger drill. Purely if you want, I sometimes will when doing free hand metal drilling.

Another thing is measure how deep you want it to go and wrap your drill bit at that depth with electrical tape. This will generally stop your drill bit at the depth you want it to, unless ofcourse you have drill stops in which case ya already know what to do.

Thanks for the good guide on setting this up Uwe, should help out to many members.

also use some oil on the drill bit and the tap die it will help cut the metal a little easier, great video none the less!!!

Cast iron has a lot of graphite in it.  You can lube when tapping, but it's usually not detrimental if you don't.

It's a nice video.

How do you like the guide now that you have it?

It’s January 2022, I have upgraded my 4500 in many ways, the last item was an inline presser foot set (not here yet).
what other items are out there, somewhere there is a list of things to add without tripping over em on accident???
