Members George1520 Posted April 4, 2017 Members Report Posted April 4, 2017 I was watching a video on youtube and a french shoemaker lighted the contact cement on fire after he apply it to the shoe. He said that will speed up the drying time. I did a google search and supposedly cyclist call it hot patching. Any of you set the cement on fire? Does it waken the bonding strength? For your enjoyment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zwq59bBJSbs Quote
Members TonyRV2 Posted April 5, 2017 Members Report Posted April 5, 2017 I hadn't thought about this in years, but as kids we use to set the cement of fire when patching bicycle inner tubes. Don't know if it helped or not, or if it was just because we liked lighting the stuff on fire. Quote
Members Bodean Posted April 5, 2017 Members Report Posted April 5, 2017 I used to see guys do that all the time at tire shops. I guess it worked or they wouldn't do it. I don't know if I trust it on a leather piece that I have spent hours on. Quote
garypl Posted April 5, 2017 Report Posted April 5, 2017 I also used to light the tire patch cement back in the late 1950's - don't know if it helped, but it sure was fun! I really enjoyed watching your video playing with the contact cement! Quote
