Sewing machine for thick veg leather

Recommended Posts

Hello

We need new machine. Need to sew horse equipment from thick 3-4mm vegetable tanned leather (Now we have Tärnsjö leather: http://tarnsjogarveri.com/wip/en/leather/)

ATM we have two machines:
PFAFF 191-4-54C LMN post bed. Feeds only with feeding dog. Seems that 160 needle with 15s / 210 tex cord is too much for that. Ok with lighter leather. Too fast atm

Other one is Dürkopp 241-153 lat bed, walking foot, but doesn't feed with needle. Similar situation than with Paff. Way too fast atm and also making too short stitches (maybe 8 stitch for inch, i make separete question for that if its possible to adjust).

We have been offered two machines, both are walking foot needle feeded machines with cylinder arm.

Pfaff 335-H2-17/1B , price 500€

Adler 105-64, price 1500€

If i have understanded right they are quite a different machines. But is that Pfaff for a light use? Adler is bloody expensive..

Well some other machines have been offered also, but have to get model information from those. In price range of 1000-1500€

Yes, That Pfaff 335 is for light to medium use. That Adler 105-64 is well suited for heavy materials and 1500 Euro is not really that expensive (it's the Pfaff that's bloody cheap.)

It sure looks heavy duty to me. That motor can probably operate an elevator. Love that monster hand wheel.

The Adler is a needle feed and would work much better for you use (CowboyBob sell roller foot that fit both the Adler and Singer) The singer is bottom feed and will mark up that nice Tærnsjø leather. You must make sure the Adler is a 105-64 (with needle feed), Bob above also sells a harness foot that fit the Adler machine. When it comes to medium duty machines like the Pfaff, you can find many bargains in Scandinavia. Nevertheless, cylinder beds are more expensive. The Pfaff 335 is a H2 and is very light in thread size. Has to be at least a H3, but still very small bobbin. The Adler is expensive because of the feed type, perhaps you can get it a bit down. They are not that commonly for sale in Scandinavia like the medium classes are. Have a look at Sieck.de Germany for comparison of prices (dealer prices are higher of course) Heavy stitcher are expensive if they have a usable feed type.
