29K something

Saw this advertised for $300. Photos lack some detail, but it looks like the shuttle/bobbin is missing and there is some damage to the top of the head? Anyone with more knowledge care to give me their thoughts re-getting it working (maybe)?

        There are two versions of this machine. The older ones are like this where the bottom arm is a solid bar...  The newer one is a silver end. The newer one,you can replace the front bobbin shuttle parts if get worn. The older solid ones,once worn, thats it for the machine.....  

       The newer version is better because you can replace bits and bobs if need to.  the part that is bent is the pressure foot tension. Hard to say, what is exactly wrong with. Would need close pictures to see what is going on. Might be able to straighten the bent bits.  Shuttles should not be a problem to replace. more the worn parts might need to be addressed and a worry about getting sewing again....

29K51 I would guess. It already has the helical spring instead of the blade spring on the backside. A lot of 29K71 parts will fit. The gear box you can drop out to the bottom when the shuttle carrier is in the right position (if not rusted or gummed). Problem on the 50´s subclass is that it has fine teeth pinions in the gear box and they are not available as replacement when worn off or broke. Thats the only negative other than that its as good or bad as any other 29K. If you cannot turn the hand wheel do not put too much force on it because you could break the fine teethed pinions if a broke needle tip found its way into the gear box or the gear box is heavily gummed or rusted (you never know). The bent parts on top of the head are an easy fix  - 29K71 parts will fit.

Thanks guys. At this stage I think I'll give it a miss as it's way out on the northern side of town. I'll keep an eye on the ad, if it doesn't sell I might offer half price but it still seems like a bit of a risk sight unseen.
