I've got some pieces that I have stained with Pro-Dye and I intend to paint some letters that I have carved/stamped on them with Angelus acrylic paint.  I want to use Tan-Kote as my finish.  Should I apply it before or after I paint the letters with the Angelus paint?

Acrylic paint first.  You want the paint to adhere to teh leather, NOT the tan-kote.  And let it COMPLETELY dry before using the tan-kote (which,by the way, is also acrylic).

Thanks, JLS and Bill.

I just did one coat (yellow paint over purple stain) - it really soaked in and looks like I'll likely have to do several more.

Yellow is a color that can often work better if you use white first.

Aha!  I had thought about that a couple of days ago...and then forgot it when I did it today.  Thanks for that recommendation.
