plinkercases Report post Posted September 4, 2017 This is what I see every time I go outside... some see hamburgers or milk and all I see is leather!
CaptQuirk Report post Posted September 5, 2017 Nice looking critters, but what I see is a lot of expense and work for cheese burgers, steak, and a couple of sides I agree though, if you are raising some cattle, learning to prepare and tan hides would definitely cross my mind too. plinkercases Report post Posted September 5, 2017 I have a Brother from church who runs an abattoir and some day I would like to get some fresh hides from him (small maybe sheep or goat etc) and try tanning them.... The hide on that big girl in the picture looked like velour in real life...amazing... the steers are all messed up and cover in their own crap... boys versus girls I guess.... WoodysWorkshop Report post Posted September 5, 2017 How'd the Native American Indian's do it? Buffalo, Elk, Mule & White Tail Deer, Bear... Their cloths, shoes, boots, tools where all made of leather and bone (needles). Even their TP's were hides. Can't be all that hard. Making tooling leather, now.....that's a different story I'd imagine!

plinkercases Report post Posted September 6, 2017 My brain wasn't tanned it was pickled.... and dried out at the same time actually.... and now it doesn't always work correctly but at least it turns on every morning somehow! And yes I don't dream I could ever make tooling leather but something to make bags or clothes with would be fun.
