superpacker Report post Posted November 12, 2017 Making a bridle belt from Clinton’s Havana dark brown. Once I slick the edges, any recommendation on how to dye it?
WoodysWorkshop Report post Posted November 12, 2017 I have been using Hi-Lite to slick with. Seams to work out fine for me. I just brush on some shene afterwards. But they do make edge paint, but I've yet to afford it to try.
superpacker Report post Posted November 12, 2017 What type of sheen? I’ve seen bridle edges left in dyed or painted but they are usuall on lighter colored leather. After beveling these edges, they seem really light - like it’s too much contrast so I feel a need to dye
WoodysWorkshop Report post Posted November 12, 2017 Eco Flow Super Shene is all I have.
superpacker Report post Posted November 12, 2017 Does the sheen darken the edge? How well does it do at sealing?
Mattsbagger Report post Posted November 12, 2017 Sheen is a clear top coat. Dye it with a dye as close as you can then burnish and I use a beeswax/parifin mix as final burnish. There is also this. https://youtu.be/dUV5-dOjVFA
superpacker Report post Posted November 13, 2017 So I just started (haven’t finished) burnishing with liquid saddle soap (Fiebing) and a wood hand burnisher. Would be ok to do this first then dye then do some type of sealer or gum trag? Or should the dye go first? Then saddle soap burnish then gum trag/sealer? Mattsbagger Report post Posted November 13, 2017 You can dye through the saddle soap but not the gum trag. Finish burnishing with the saddle soap then dye. Then burnish again with beeswax. I don't use gum trag so I can't speak to that.
