Braided waist coat

Recommended Posts

Made this a while a go and I don't remember if I shared this with the forum or not. This is all hand done, from stitching to pieces together to the tooling and lacing. Took half a hide of garment leather and 250 feet of suede lace to do it! First time of doing a gouche style lacing on the back and side seams did a Mexican round all the way around. Lot more pics here https://imgur.com/gallery/xJLvz  Forgot to mention this was the very first time ever of me trying something like a waistcoat/vest of any kind I like the way it turned out and its warm in the fall

Nice looking vest!  How many hours do you figure it took you to complete it?

Cutting, tooling and stitching took roughly 8 hours the braiding on the other hand took me roughly 5 days to do.  So honestly I would say roughly between 50 to 60 hours total The hand stitching was easy the braiding was a pain in the ass but I enjoyed the hell out of it

Always takes longer than you expect!  That's why I will never make a living doing leatherwork!
