Members CanuckAmuck Posted March 1, 2018 Members Report Posted March 1, 2018 Put this together last weekend. It's a minimal, simple wallet for holding a few cards and some cash, held with some elastic string. Wanted to practice my product photography and needed a model, so I didn't bother dying the leather, but I think I like the natural veg tan colour anyway. I'll wear this around for a couple months to see how it fares, maybe get a nice little patina going. Quote
bikermutt07 Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 Nice and simple. Looks like your stitching is getting better. Quote
Members CanuckAmuck Posted March 2, 2018 Author Members Report Posted March 2, 2018 Thanks Mutt! I'm happy you noticed. I think I'm really getting the hang of stitching now. Quote
bikermutt07 Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Yeah, not too long ago I realized I was essentially sewing backwards. I was trying to cast a loop to help the back, but I was doing it wrong. I was basically doing the exact opposite of what I was supposed to be doing. Since then, I said, screw the back. The back is the back. Quote
bikermutt07 Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 It also looks like you have the thread size, awl size, and stitch length all figured out for this thread. That I found was a lot of the battle. It still looks like you could give them a little tapping with a hammer to help them lay down. Quote
Members CanuckAmuck Posted March 2, 2018 Author Members Report Posted March 2, 2018 I did give it a bit of a tap, but I suppose I didn't tap hard enough - I was wary of denting the leather by hitting it too aggressively. What do you mean by "cast a loop"? I'll admit it's not a phrase I'm familiar with. Quote
bikermutt07 Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Well YouTube will not let me share the video here. Search Ian Atkinson "quick tip improving your saddle stitch". Quote
