Recommended Posts

Guest Helen Sadie

The establishment of the Leather Industry Park (LIP) in Lobatse is part of Botswana’s economic diversification drive. The park, which will include a Common Effluent Treatment Plant, chrome recovery, sewage treatment plant, secure landfill facility and laboratory, will fall under the auspices of Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) and bring together Small and Medium sized businesses in the leather production value chain. It’s an exciting project which has huge potential to create significant employment opportunities and impact the livelihood of many Batswana.

As the Chief Operating Officer, reporting to the LEA CEO and the LIP Board of Directors you will take the responsibility for this start-up project from planning to implementation. This will require an exceptional all-rounder who will have not only great project management skills but also the ability to: translate the business
model into business strategies; initiate business development for investors and tenants through utilising developed networks; formulate operational policies, oversee the financial performance of the park; build a competent leather park team; and promote technology and innovation in product and service development.

Your experience in the establishment of a leather industry district/park is essential together with a Degree in Leather Technology, Chemical/Environmental Engineering or equivalent and at least 8 years’ experience in management of environmental services and tanning for the leather industry. You will be an independent operator with strong teamwork and consultation to communicate with stakeholders, including Government departments. A strong commercial orientation and business acumen is critical.

It is sometimes very surprising at where connections do match up, or how few hops it takes to find someone that knows someone who knows the person you want to contact.  When my brother-in-law had some problems in India after he was mugged, I put him in touch with a lady that had temporarily worked in my company, taking over work to be done in India.  Sometimes these connections are very fortunate.  But long story short, I don't know your friends.

Tom
