Pfaff 545 Needle Question

I have a Pfaff 545 H3. The owners manual clearly states the H3 uses the 134-35 system and the H4 uses the 190 system. My H3 that I bought last week is using 190 needles. I plan on using 138 and 207 thread so I need to get some larger needles.

Do I stick with the 190 system or should I go to the manual recommended 134-35 system and adjust the needle bar? Would that be the only adjustment that required?

K - I thought I read here or on the Hotrod forum that one can raise the needle bar to accommodate the longer 190 system needles and possibly do some retiming.  I am assuming that the shank diameter will fit. I am no expert....

The H4 has a higher foot lift & with the 135-35 needle in it the needle would hit the foot with the feet up that's why it needs the longer needle.Your machine shouldn't lift that high UNLESS someone put the higher lifter handle on it & that's why it's marked to use the 190 only.The problem w/the 190 is it's longer so it will flex & break easier than the 134-35.

H4 has a higher lift, and needs the 190 system needles to work correctly here.  H3 uses 134-35.

If you go from one system to the next, you will have to change needle bar height (not hook timing).

Shank is the same, but keep in mind the longer the needle, the more deflection.
