Googledave Report post Posted March 21, 2018 Hello everyone! I have a singer 111w153 and am absolutely in love with it.. I rebuilt , adjusted and retimed the entire machine and it runs perfectly! There is a two inch long tapered pin behind the tensioner that goes thru to the back of the machine and looks like some sort of a push rod.. There is also a spring loaded bracket that is screwed onto the tensioner plate that this push rod rests against. I took off the tensioner placed my finger on the push rod and spun the machine with my finger on it and there is absolutely no movement of this pin/pushrods. Also, what does the spring loaded bracket do? Just trying to know every aspect of this machine.. thanks all!
CowboyBob Report post Posted March 21, 2018 The end of the bracket is supposed to push on the rod,it's probably broken off it the rod doesn't move when you lift the foot.It isn't the easiest part to replace because you have to pull the pressure bar up past where the spring is. Googledave Report post Posted March 21, 2018 Thanks for the quick response CowboyBob! Well I pulled off the tensioner bracket and used a magnet to pulled out the rod and the rod is intact... with a flashlight I looked in the hole and don’t see anything broken in there... it looks like it somehow connects to the foot lifting lever or the presser foot? What is the bar supposed to do/control?

What is the bar supposed to do/control? When you lift your presser feet, whether by hand or foot, or knee lever, the bracket on the back is supposed to push the rod to the front. There it is supposed to make contact with the bent steel tab on the backside of the upper tension assembly. When that tab is pushed forward, the top tension disks will separate enough to let the thread flow past the disks with minimal tension. This is the expected behavior when you want to remove the material, or pull through freshly loaded top thread.
Googledave Report post Posted March 21, 2018 Thank you Wizcrafts! That makes complete sense!! So on the presser lift there should be some type of eccentric that probably wore off and now is not pushing that push rod....

Cowboy Bob has all the parts you'll need to get this thread release working again. I got parts for my 111w103 from Bob a few months ago and the machine is working like new again.
