howardb Report post Posted February 1, 2008 I have a post waaaay down in the "special events" thread. It's all about the upcoming leather show in April. There will be vendors, demonstrations, cool raffle items (we are getting a box from someone every day!!) and a competition! The competition is open to all comers. You don't have to belong to a guild, though the judging will use IFOLG guidelines. Anyway, the details are in the special events thread (same folder as the contest threads) near the bottom of the main board. It's April 25-27 and will be in Michigan City, IN (which is close to Chicago). I figured I'd put a note up here and point the way. I'd say most of the members of this forum would kick butt in the competition room. I saw nice stuff in Texas last fall, but some of the items I've seen lately rival them for sure. And again, if you are a vendor and want to come, or are interested in donating something for the raffle table, let me know and I can put you in touch with the right people. Johanna Report post Posted February 4, 2008 I've got this show on my calendar- who else is going? I'll have to make myself a leatherworker.net name badge for these shows so I don't miss anyone. I think this is the largest leather guild in the world. Johanna
Tina Report post Posted February 4, 2008 We have put the date down in the calendar, hopefully I see you there:-)

Hilly Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Where in Michigan City is the show? I might like to attend. And also, I heard mention of a motel taking reservations at a reduced rate? All you do is mention that you're with IFOLG to get discounted rooms?
Johanna Report post Posted February 9, 2008 This Spring show is being sponsored by the Calumet guild, which is an IFoLG guild, but this is not an IFoLG sanctioned event. The show is similar to IFoLG shows- same vendors, teachers, competition rules, but it is not under the IFoLG umbrella. When you call for reservations, mention Calumet. Guilds usually negotiate a price with the hotel for the conference rooms based on the expected attendance. When you rent a room from the hosting hotel, it counts towards the guild's quota. Without this kind of support, guilds cannot afford to sponsor shows, so if you are tempted to save ten bucks at the motel across the street, remember that your room rental counts towards the host guild. It's important that we show our support for these local shows, or the guilds won't be able to continue to have them, and that would be a doggone shame. Contact Brent or his MIL, Carol Higgins, if you can make a raffle table donation or otherwise lend a hand. Brent, please post the hotel info as soon as you have it. howardb Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Trying this again... Thanks to Johanna for filling in for me while I'm not paying attention to this thread! The thread with the show packet is down in the same area as the monthly carving challenges: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?s...ost&p=23477 Briefly, the show is at the Holiday Inn in Michigan City (see packet for address and phone #). Definitely mention CALG (Calumet Area Leathercrafters Guild) or possibly even "leather show" and the date. Rate should be $79 plus taxes. PM or e-mail me if you need more information!
