Members Handstitched Posted April 29, 2018 Members Report Posted April 29, 2018 I often wondered about the connection between the two companies. The only reason I had an interest in Tandy Electronics is because in an earlier part of my life, long before my love of leather, I used to tinker with electronics , restore antique valve radios, mess about with radios, stereos etc . One of my sheds still contains all of that stuff. I very recently watched a doco on Youtube about the decline of TE and thats what piqued my interest all over again. Heres some interesting info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_D._Tandy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tandy_Electronics I also spotted a commonality between the two companies.....they're both over priced HA !! garypl Posted April 29, 2018 Report Posted April 29, 2018 As far as I know all of the Tandy/Radio Shack stores in the United States are now closed. I used to buy small electronic components from the local Radio Shack. Once everything went solid state, I guess demand for components dropped severely, leaving only Radio Shack branded merchandise. The brand which never seemed to have a reputation for top quality, although I still use a Radio Shack multimeter I bought about 30 years ago. Quote Cowboy 4500, Consew 206RB-4

Funny you should say that, because I also have one too but I accidentally blew mine up I had it on the wrong setting....oops! **poof** and it was dead. Just glad that the leather side of the ' empire' remained and didn't go the way of the electronics business, even if they are overpriced However, I doubt the ' electronic nerds' (like myself ) hate to hear that ha ha !! Perhaps one day I'll restore a valve radio with a hand made and hand carved leather case eh ? Leather hand bag radio ? Now I'm being silly. mmmmm?........however.........? Members Sheilajeanne Posted April 29, 2018 Members Report Posted April 29, 2018 My first computer was a Tandy! No compliants - it lasted may years until the video card bit the dust! Used it for all my nursing college papers/assignments. Also had a Tandy laptop -brick of a thing, but it, too was nearly impossible to kill. I nearly bought a tube radio yesterday: the radio of my childhood, a late '40's Viking (T. Eaton Co.) Still works, sounds great...ah, the nostalgia!! https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/electrohom_viking_49_33_emu51_418.html Quote
