Davm Report post Posted September 6, 2018 I'm making a western style holster and I want to form fit the gun to the holster. In the past I have always soaked the leather with water, wrapped the revolver in plastic and put it in the holster. I have so far never had any water get to the gun and rust it however it is always a worry. Someone told me to wet the leather with rubbing alcohol instead of water. Any comments appreciated. garypl Report post Posted September 6, 2018 I have used alcohol to wet form small projects and it does work, but feels like it dries out the leather much more. I see no real advantage to using alcohol over water. Just oil the gun well, wrap in plastic wrap and form the holster. I have never had a gun rust doing it this way. You can speed it along by hitting it with a hair dryer or heat gun. Gary
Stetson912 Report post Posted September 7, 2018 Yeah, I wouldn't think that's a great idea. I think Gary's way would be better. alcohol would make jerky out of it
Davm Report post Posted September 7, 2018 Thanks, I've used some alcohol dyes that really dried out the leather too much.
