Maximum size of thread and needle for PFAFF 345-h3

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Hello from Down Under - Sydney Australia :)

i just bought a PFAFF345-H3-6/01 CLN a few weeks ago and now try to understand and use the machine. I do hand stitched leather wallet but want to use the machine to help increase productivity.

What is the maximum size of thread and needle I can use with the machine? The machine came with needle 22/140 and thread M30(T90).

Can I use 24/180 needle for M12(T210) thread or even 26/230 for M08(T350) thread?

I also want to buy a speed reducer but not sure where to buy in Australia. If anyone here know please let me know.

Thank you very much for your help:)

Hello there!

Looks as though a normal range of thread tops at T207, normally with that. Many may use a smaller thread in my opinion. With some super tuning possibly the bigger thread, yet going back down to small threads for other general stitching might be a pain with resetting things.

With a reducer, many of your mates downunder are sure to give a bit of help. There are several options for you, and some depending on how much time etc.

I have heard there are several machine dealers down there. One in particular is a  Cowboy hightex sew machine dealer. Often on the forum here, deffinetly consider them.

Good day

Hi Floyd, could you tell me how to tune my machine for a bigger thread (T350/M08) please?

#207 is the largest thread you can sew on that machine and that is only #207 on top. Your machine will not handle #346 because of 1.   the size of the needle required and 2.   the clearance on the hook.  Best thread to use on this machine is #138 top and bottom.  This is a great machine that is no longer made by Pfaff.  To use thread size #346 means going to a harness class machine.

Thanks Glenn, will it jams up if I use #207 at the bottom? Are there any way that I can modify to use it? ( top/bottom #207)

Also Is 24/180 needle suitable for #207?

Only by removing metal from the hook and  throat plate.    The machine is not made to handle thread larger than #138 on the bottom. period.  #24 needle will work for #207 thread.  They do make a #25 size needle.  Trust me, #138 top and bottom sew best on that machine.
