Tool For Stamping Reference Lines?

Recommended Posts

If I'm stamping a belt, and I want to come in .25" from the edge to start my stamping, I know there are, in theory, a lot of ways I could make this reference line: scroll knife, creaser, wing divider. Each of these would make a line differently, and I wasn't sure if one is preferable.

For a reference line, not a part of the design, I would use a set of dividers, or 2nd choice would be a scratch awl with a straight edge. All you will see is a faint scratch which will disappear in the stamping and/or carving.

The best tool for the job is the one you will USE.  IF you're comfortable with it, that's the one.

Wait for it... some a@@ will be here in a minute to sell you a new tool to do that with and sign you up for a paid class on how to use it
