TJ959 Report post Posted October 16, 2019 I'm still very new to sewing machines but I have run into a singer 241-12 for what I think is a good price. It looks like it might be for high speed production work rather than my slow plod along style. I'm also concerned about stitch length and whether or not it will accept very heavy threads and large needles. Anyone familiar with this machine? Wizcrafts Report post Posted October 16, 2019 The 241-12 is definitely not for use in leather sewing of any form fashion of kind, without huge modifications. Tip49 Report post Posted October 11, 2020 I have two Singer machines, 201K and 241-13. I know they are not suitable for leather work but I used the 201K to upholster a 59 Beetle 2 years ago, and this winter plan on trying the use both machines to upholster a 56 Oval Beetle. I have added a smaller pulley , lenthended the pedal arm and going to try using aroller foot in hopes that the 241 will be up to the task. Tom Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

When I bought it 4 years ago it had been sitting in a garage for at least 7 years not ran. It did start and I took it home. I replaced all the things. New belt, new gasket, new oil. Adjusted the stitch length etc. I have read the manual back and forth. What I don’t know much about is the actual motor. I need to know how I service it or what I need to do to keep it running well. It looks like there are some oil plugs in it? The motor runs great and sounds great but can anyone steer me to more information on servicing? Thank you My advice would be to replace it with a 750 watt servo motor. They're quiet and power efficient and you have much better control of sewing speed. I tossed all my clutch motors.
