campingtomz Report post Posted November 5, 2019 Hello everyone, I have been working on my Juki 563, Following some guides on fine tuning it. I am working on making sure the thread hook and needle are lined up together. During that process I found my thread would jam up. It seems the bobbin release finger and the needle plate cause the jam. When i adjusted the needle and thread arm i moved the bobbin release finger to to far over and it will not move enough for the thread to pass through. I moved the bobbin case back enough to for the thread to pass the bobbin release finger, but now the thread hook doesn't capture the thread from the needle. I looked through the manual and could not find anything that would help. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thank you, Tom
Gregg From Keystone Sewing Report post Posted November 5, 2019 (edited) It appears that you have a mismatch of parts; standard needle plate, binder presser feet set, binder feed dog. That feeder, also, has taken one too many needle strikes and can certainly snag the thread as you are sewing. Also, what size it that thread, it look really thick? What needle size is that also? Hope this helps get you started. Edited November 5, 2019 by Gregg From Keystone Sewing
campingtomz Report post Posted November 5, 2019 Yeah i was looking to get replacement parts soon. The thread is 138, and the needles are 135x16 any suggestion on the replacement parts.
Pintodeluxe Report post Posted November 6, 2019 When you're timing and adjusting your machine, I would switch to #92 (tex90) thread size. My 563 doesn't love 138 thread in the bobbin unless the bobbin tension is backed way down. Pair the #90 thread with a #19 or #20 needle size. You have the needle system correct (135x17 or 135x16 for leather point). Swap out the worn and mismatched parts, and double check the timing is exact. As a rough gauge, the hook should pass the middle of the needle skarf. The hook should be as close to the needle as possible, without touching it. Good luck and keep us posted. Good stuff, like said report back.
shoepatcher Report post Posted November 6, 2019 A LU 563 should sew #138 all day long. The grove for holding the finger of the bobbin case may be too shallow. I have deepen those a little bitt and polished it out. It allow the thread to move over the bobbin case better. Yes, definitely replace the feed dog. No only beat but it could have a sharp piece sticking out that will fray your thread.
Pintodeluxe Report post Posted November 6, 2019 One other little thing... looks like the bobbin might be in wrong. Hard to tell from the picture. Basically if you hold the bobbin in your left hand, it should unwind by pulling the thread to the right (unwind counterclockwise). It's kind of an anti-backlash feature with most sewing machines.
