Shearing Shearling?

How do you shear shearling down to a shorter nap?

Barber clippers, like Wahl.  Pick the guard you need for the thickness you want.  You may want to do it outside or somewhere with hard floors so you can sweep it up.  Depending on how large the shearling is and how much nap you are cutting off, it could get rather messy.

If this is a one shot deal, try to borrow a pair or get the cheapest you can find.

I agree with Aven. If you know a dog groomer they maybe able to help. I would try a #40 or a #50 blade with a attachable comb sized to the height that you want the length to be. A lot is going to depend on how curly and intermingled it is and how large an area you are trying to cut down evenly. If it is just the edges it shouldn't be too difficult but getting large areas to look good can be a challenge.

I cut down sheepskin fleece for dye application, so the fibre is not so long and holding (wasting) extra dye. I just use a pair of scissors. The finish is not really flat and even as you would want for a project, but it works OK for my purpose.
