kiwican Report post Posted December 18, 2019 Hello all! Hoping for some input. I made a pair of sheep skin mittens. They turned out great! The skin side is white. I want to dye it a different color. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with that. I have alcohol based dyes
oltoot Report post Posted December 19, 2019 If they are chrome tanned (most likely) they will soak up alcohol based dyes at very different and unpredictable rates!
Tinkerton Report post Posted December 19, 2019 If you have any scraps left, I would suggest testing on those first. Full disclosure, I haven't played with sheepskin much, but I would think an airbrush would be your best bet for getting an even coating on it.
kiwican Report post Posted December 20, 2019 Thanks guys. To be fair I'm not so worried about how they really look. I'm more worried about the alcohol dye drying out the skin and I'm not sure how to seal that dye
