Contributing Member Regis Posted February 5, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted February 5, 2008 Here are a couple pictures of recent holsters. I made one in a more western style where there is a large peice of leather folded over the back. With that, there is a rather large area of flesh-side and I don't know if I should treat/finish it in some way. 2nd picture shows the back of the holster. What should I put on it if anything? Here is the back I was asking about. Thanks, Regis Quote
TracyMoss Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 where do you get your dummy pistols? Quote
Contributing Member Regis Posted February 5, 2008 Author Contributing Member Report Posted February 5, 2008 Tracy, There has been a number of posts for blue & red guns. I got 2 from theshootersbbox.com and 2 from eletetacticalsources.com. That's all I have for now. Quote
Randyc Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 Regis I would either dye the back of your western holster brown or use Fieblings TanKote which will darken the natural color a bit, but leave a protective coating. I like your holster designs. BTW, I ordered 5 Blueguns from the Shooters Box 2 weeks ago. They haven't been delivered yet. Should I be concerned or am I being my normal impatient self? Randy Quote
Members WaG35 Posted February 5, 2008 Members Report Posted February 5, 2008 I bought a couple from the shooters Box and had no issues at all. Did they give you a tracking #? 2 weeks is a little long. Quote
Contributing Member Regis Posted February 5, 2008 Author Contributing Member Report Posted February 5, 2008 Randy, Thanks. When I ordered, I asked if they were in stock. One was (1911) and I got it in about 2 weeks. The other needed back-ordered and took about 6-8 weeks (H&K P2000). I'd suggest just giving them a call. Quote
Members BOOMSTICKHolsters Posted February 6, 2008 Members Report Posted February 6, 2008 I like botach.com . They are quick to ship and usually pretty fair on their prices. Quote
Contributing Member Jordan Posted February 6, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted February 6, 2008 Mirage Technologies out of Fl. decent price and most are available in black if you don't like the blue so much.http://www.miragetechnologies.net/ I have had a little trouble finding the web site sometimes, it does'nt show up in searches. Moderator Art Posted February 6, 2008 Moderator Report Posted February 6, 2008 Hi Regis, Sand the back a little (only if it's raggy) and then Use Gum Tragacanth. You can get it from the tanner that way (HO is called "Moss Back" and W&C is called "Gummed Back") for a little extra. Art Here are a couple pictures of recent holsters. Members fishguy Posted February 6, 2008 Members Report Posted February 6, 2008 While we are on the topic of dummy guns, if you can only afford to order 2-3, which models would you reccomend? Quote
Drac Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 While we are on the topic of dummy guns, if you can only afford to order 2-3, which models would you reccomend? I've been thinking that one over meself. I'm thinking of going with a beretta 92F/96 (standard military and police issue), colt 1911 (most peeps are big fans of this one) and 1 or 2 of the glocks ((ugh!) for popularity). Quote
TracyMoss Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 I would have to second that motion. Definitely get the 1911. Quote
Members BOOMSTICKHolsters Posted February 6, 2008 Members Report Posted February 6, 2008 If you're talking about blue guns, I would say the Springfield 5" 1911a1 C&L, the Glock 17, and the Springfield XD9. They are some of the most popular models, and they can also be used to make holsters for the smaller versions of the same gun if you are familiar with the other guns' dimensions. Quote
Contributing Member rdb Posted February 6, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted February 6, 2008 Feibings makes a Suede and Roughout Dye The only place I've seen it is at ZacK Whites. but they only stock the Black, Red, Green, and Blue. Google Feibings if those aren't what you want Quote

It depends on the style of holster you're making. As to what's available in a dummy gun version, my experience has been that the Springfield XD's, the SIG's, and the 1911's are generally the most popular. Quote
