NDsoll Report post Posted March 3, 2020 Hi there! I'm pretty new to leatherworking, but have been messing around with some basics and now have a decent grasp on hand-stitching. I've made some bags and wallets, but nothing that is form fitting which is what I'm trying to do now. I recently got some apple AirPods and was looking into cases and saw this one. I've tried to get it like 8 times, but I just can't figure it out enough to make it leveled off at the ends and not bulging or stretching too far at the seams. Pattern-making is something I have pretty much zero knowledge in (not for lack of trying, I promise!) and each time I try it with tape, it gets all screwed up. Any help would be massively appreciated! Thank you! NDsoll
RockyAussie Report post Posted March 4, 2020 I would just start with an oversize piece and contact glue it up and then stretch it down over the case so that it just goes a bit over where the middle seam line should be. Leave the leather long where the 2 halves meet as well as that would be trimmed of afterward. Cut down through the middle seam line and then lay it out flat onto some stiff cardboard. Leave a good bit over for you to be able to pull the cup shape down with your fingers. That should now be your pattern done. Then after cutting out the 2 sides, stitch the pieces together and then draw them down over the case. Pull back upward to get some glue in between the case and the leather and then carefully trim off the over size leather.
Stetson912 Report post Posted March 7, 2020 Hans atelier on youtube has two videos making very similar airpods cases. Along with patterns. You may want to look it up. I think that design is actually done by him as well
